Case Studies

  • Aston Croft has carried out numerous projects for many clients and the following are examples of some of the most recent instructions that we have received:

    • We were instructed to carry out a health and safety audit of a large contracting company which involved a thorough review of the company’s existing policy, system and procedures.

We assessed all risks which allowed us to produce new documents for the company. Further advice was given to the staff and management as to the implementation of the new policy.

Aston Croft is now in the process of advising the company upon the implementation of ISO Accreditation.

    • We were instructed by a major house builder to undertake a geo/environmental investigation of the underlying subsoil on a site for a new development of a low rise block of flats.

We collected soil samples for the design of a piled foundation system in addition to carrying out a contamination investigation. The investigation comprised several boreholes together with a follow on phase of dynamic probing.

The investigation highlighted the presence of Clay to the majority of the site. Additionally, hydrocarbons were discovered due to the former industrial use of the site.

Aston croft were also contracted to supervise the remediation of the site which included the excavation of contaminated soils and removal off site agreed with the regulators.

    • We were instructed by a leading Loss Adjuster to investigate and structurally assess the extent of damage to a barn that formed part of the property portfolio of a large estate.

The barn was suffering from a roof collapse and wall damage caused by a delivery truck impacting the barn. The investigations involved considerable structural propping and support and site clearance before further assessments could be carried out.

The owners of the barn wanted to repair/rebuild the damaged sections only but our assessments revealed that the barn in its entirety should be replaced upon newly constructed foundations. The claim has since been settled on an indemnity basis with the owners.

    • A Phase 1 desk study was commissioned by a developer client to investigate possible contamination of a new build development of six houses including the construction of a new road.

Aston Croft undertook the investigation of this site with a combination of trial pits to define the lateral extent of the possible contamination source and cable percussion boreholes were drilled to determine the depth of possible contamination.

The boreholes were drilled employing techniques to ensure that the underlying aquifer was not compromised by the investigation. An extended period of gas monitoring was undertaken in order to assess the risk from harmful gases.

The results of the investigation were developed into a capping remedial solution that was acceptable to the regulators, and the Environment Agency.

    • Aston Croft were instructed by a major UK Loss Adjuster to completely project manage a major Insurance fire loss in the Isle of Wight.

This involved a complete survey; risk assessment and structural assessment of the site before preparing a detailed specification of the works to completely re- build and re-furbish the property.

The project works involved full project management, CDM, contract administration duties, asbestos surveying and removal in addition to considering disabled access and accommodation facilities to be implemented.
