There is pressure on local authorities to activate their Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 strategies, where contaminated land may be an issue. We operate a tiered approach to identify all risks of the potentially contaminated land and eliminate those risks through successful validation agreed with the Regulator in the form of:
Phase 1 - Contaminated Land Assessment that typically involves:
Desk Top Study and Walk Over Survey Of the site
Establishment of under lying geology and hydrology
Obtaining previous site and surrounding uses
Obtaining relevant environmental and historical data
Producing a detailed report with conclusions and recommendations
Phase 2 - Site Investigation Assessment that typically involves:
Client/Regulator agreement to site sampling
Geo/Environmental Site Investigations
Laboratory Analysis
Producing a report regarding contamination analysis and recommendations
Phase 3 - Site Remediation & Validation that typically involves:
Agreeing the most suitable form of remediation strategy to be implemented
On-site supervision
Liaison with Regulatory Bodies
Bioremediation of soil and groundwater - The remediation of contaminated land and water is widely acknowledged as a major challenge for today's society. Bioremediation is a well established technique for the remediation of organic contamination in soils.
It can be carried out with the soil remaining in place (in-situ) or with excavated soil (ex-situ). We have been involved in environmental and land consultancy and contacting issues for over a decade and we work closely with clients and Regulators on all projects that we are involved in. We are able to arrange and manage a remediation service to clients who have land that is affected by contamination. This contamination can be solid or liquid, organic or inorganic.
We have experience in site remediation from traditional 'dig and dump' philosophy to innovative groundwater treatments and bio-remediation. By combining our experience together with specialist contractor's remediation techniques, we can save our clients substantial financial outlay and time on projects that we are instructed to work on.
Planning Policy Statement 23 (PPS 23), 2.45 states:
All investigations of land potentially affected by contamination should be carried out by or under the direction of a suitably qualified competent person. The competent person would normally be expected to be a chartered member of an appropriate professional body (such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geological Society of London, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Institution of Environmental Management) and also have relevant experience of investigating contaminated sites.
